In 1972 Hope Rogers of Vinton, Iowa, was elected Benton County's first (and only thus far) woman supervisor. Many thought that it was a fluke, until Hope was re-elected in 1976. According to Hope's daughter Mary, her mother worked very hard! "We never campaigned in Vinton, which is why she flew under the radar. My goodness, that was 50 years ago. I was only 13!" Mary said.

The abolishment of employee Nepotism was spearheaded by Hope Rogers along with colleagues. If you think things are a bit loose now, it was appalling in those days.

Back then, Hope was fiercely loyal to the Democratic party. However, she is now registered as an Independent and is throwing her endorsement behind Ray Lough.
