At Thursday night's council meeting, Matt Boggess of Vinton Parks & Rec reported on a bid received for the new replacement playground equipment for Riverside Park. The former equipment was vandalized back in May. The new replacement equipment is slated to arrive and be installed in late March or early April.

After searching for vendors that could provide new playground equipment, only one vendor could meet the criteria. The insurance paid out $155,000 to cover the damaged equipment. Boggess reported that the park will be able to replace it and have the work done for $159,000. The balance of the money will be able to be transferred from a different account within the department to cover the additional cost. Last time he said that it took more than a week for his staff to just dig the holes and get the ground ready for the equipment. Having the work done by the company will save the department a lot of time and frustration.

The new playground will include fun features including a zip line, and a sensory board, as well as other bonus additions. Boggess also said that rather than a glossy paint, the new playground will also include a matte finish adding more sensory features for children.

Boggess also reported that the Fall Festival was a success with Beast and Bird providing free food to the 130-140 people that came through the Skate Center that day.

He said that there are several events planned over the next few weeks. The Turkey coloring contest judging is happening now, with the winners riding with Santa in the Holiday Parade next week.

The upcoming Breakfast with Santa will be happening on December 10, click HERE for details. Pickleball will also be starting up as well as many other activities!
