Good news, Vinton! Both sets of stoplights at the intersections of 4th Street & A Avenue and 4th Street & 1st Avenue are now fully operational.

These intersections are no longer “stop and go” intersections — please resume following normal traffic light signals.

Thank you for your patience while the repairs were completed, and as always, drive safely!

DV October 17, 2025, 10:13 pm It would be good to put signs up to indicate this. People are going to think they should still treat it as a four way stop and go when the other side has a green light.
RL October 17, 2025, 8:06 pm Not good news. If the goal is to get me to take a longer drive through downtown you have succeeded.
TN October 16, 2025, 8:09 pm We will avoid going down 4th street now! We will go a different route to avoid 4th street! It was way much better the way they were!!!
JH October 16, 2025, 5:48 pm In doing business downtown I went to the stop light and noticed that the red light stayed on, looking at the cross traffic light I noticed it was green. I thought "Oh, they went back to using the lights like they use to." So I did my business and drove back through the lights. In front of me a car drove up to the intersection, slowed down for a stop (but didn't really stop) and went through the solid red light. I watched him do the same thing on the next red light.
I am wondering why and who decided to changed the way the lights were working.
Then the same evening I went through town and saw they were back blinking again. How confusing is this?
I feel people are use to the red light blinking and they don't take the time to see the red light is staying on.
I don't know what the solution could be but I don't feel safe going through a green light any more downtown and will probably avoid driving downtown.
DS October 16, 2025, 1:47 pm Out of curiosity, what was wrong with the way it was? I would be willing to bet that if you took a poll of residents, they would overwhelmingly agree that it’s better just the way it’s been.
DM October 14, 2025, 9:13 am Its so interesting how people react to change! On my walk this morning. I saw the following most was speeding up to make light! But then there was speeding up on yellow (which turned RED), which was behind our local police 1/2 a block ahead of them. Also the person that ran the red light all within one change of lights. Then there was the good person that stopped and waited. While the person that was behind them started honking, wondering why they would not move on. Maybe we should of thought thru whether we needed the lights changed? Or maybe a roundabout! FUNNY! Dave
