News : Mid-Iowa Youth Beef Team Roundup

Saturday, April 11, our team seniors Jill Hanson (Union High School), Shelby Johnston (West Marshall High School), and Rhianna Murty (GMG High School) traveled to Ames, IA for the Iowa Cattlemen’s Foundation Youth Beef Team Scholarship competition. Eight contestants vied for a scholarship by completing an individual interview and making a five-to-eight-minute beef presentation. Jill, Shelby, and Rhianna were each awarded a top $2,000 scholarship.

On Sunday, April 12, the team held their final meeting for our 2025-2026 schedule. The team kicked off the meeting at the KIX101.1 radio studio to record their May Beef Month, “Beef Trivia”. These spots will air during May to celebrate Iowa’s May Beef Month. Be sure to tune into KIX101.1 for the opportunity to participate in the Beef Trivia contest and win a $20 beef certificate sponsored by our team and the Marshall, Story, and Tama Cattlemen’s Associations! We wrapped up our meeting by traveling to senior team member Rhianna Murty’s farm. We learned about her family’s diversified farm and beef operations and enjoyed burgers provided by Iowa Premium.

Our Mid-Iowa Youth Beef Team welcomes Iowa youth that are age twelve to high school seniors looking to expand their agriculture and cattle production knowledge. Join us as we are looking forward to celebrating May Beef Month with more activities!
