This may or may not be the editor's car from last Friday, so I really do feel your pain...

A tree along the north side of West 5th Street near the A Avenue intersection stood its ground as it found itself at the center of an unexpected traffic incident  on Wednesday evening around 7:00 p.m.

According to witnesses, a black pickup truck appeared to take the scenic route and had an unplanned meeting with the mature wooden resident. The encounter ended with a loud bang, the truck rolling onto its driver's side in front of Fareway, and the tree remaining firmly rooted in place and appeared to be largely unshaken by the incident. In fact, it only seemed to shed a little bark over the whole ordeal. Stumped by the experience, it handled the situation with remarkable composure and did not leaf the scene of the accident.

The pickup, on the other hand, appeared to take the collision a bit harder. All airbags in the dual-cab truck deployed, likely softening the impact. A piece of the truck had to be cut off by the fire departement so that it could be put onto the flatbed of the towing company. Thankfully, there did not appear to be any life-threatening injuries, though reports suggest at least one ego may have suffered significant bruising.

The scene was cleaned up by the fine men of the Vinton Volunteer Fire Department, Madorin Towing and Recovery Inc. and managed by the Vinton Police Department. North Benton Ambulance had one female in their care.

Editor's note: Thanks, Brittany, and thanks for the phone calls from readers. To the driver, we should have coffee together sometime, but I'm not sure whose driving...My accident from Friday is in the last photo!
