The Vinton Lions Club held their regular Wednesday meeting at the Pizza Ranch. There were 48 members and 1 guest present. During the business portion of the meeting, president Don Eells reminded the members about the upcoming lunch with the Iowa Board of Regents on June 9th. President Eells always provides some food for thought, and this week’s morsel came from Jimmy Jones. He said, “Make a bet every day, otherwise you might run around lucky and never even know it”. The Lions club contributed $150 to Lion’s Club International Foundation, $150 to Diabetes Awareness, and unanimously approved a contribution of $350 to the Leader Dog program. Member Pat Lyons announced the recipients of two $750 Lion’s club scholarships, Courtney Steinford and Katie Larkin. Mark Wilberg gave the required second reading of the list of the nominees for upcoming officer elections.
After the business meeting, member Mark Wilberg introduced the program, Certified Prosthetist Jim Hessenius who showed the membership the different varieties of prosthetic legs available, and the science and engineering involved in the design. Members were able to look closely at the sample legs and feet. Each week the Lion’s club is treated to a program which offers a unique perspective into the varied interests of the membership. New members are always welcome.
