Celebration of Life gathering will be from 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 3, at the Five River Carpenter JATC, 350 Waconia Ct. SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404. Jerry was born June 30, 1979, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Earnest and Linda (Bouzek) Schlemmer Jr. He attended Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids and later attended Hawkeye Community College and earned a degree in auto body repair and refinishing. Jerry was united in marriage to Traci Solyntjes on October 23, 2003, in Cancun, Mexico. He worked at Quaker Oats for over fifteen years, and for the past six years, has been a union carpenter with Local 1260.

Jerry was a very caring person who had a contagious smile that exemplified who he really was. He loved working with his hands and was always there to help anyone, with anything ... even if that meant putting some of his own projects on hold. He took a lot of pride in building the family cabin, where he spent every spare weekend camping, enjoying bonfires, boating, fishing and hanging out with family and friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on cars, and most of all spending time with his boys. He was a very creative, hard-working and fun-loving person who will be missed by many.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Traci; two sons, Drake and Aden; his father, Earnest Schlemmer of Center Point; his sisters, LeNae (David) Stewart of Center Point and Regena (Eric) Hale of Shellsburg; his nieces and nephews, Zachary (Morgan) Shurtz, Thomas (McKaylia) Shurtz, Colton Hale, Corissa Hale and Brandilynn Stewart; great-nieces and -nephews, Hunter, Leah and Carter; his grandfather, Earnest Schlemmer Sr.; his uncles, Ron and Don Schlemmer of Cedar Rapids and Gary Bouzek of Delhi; his aunt, Debbie Chambers of Waterloo; his father-in-law, Scott Solyntjes of Center Point; his mother-in-law, Mary Solyntjes of Cedar Rapids; and brother-in-law, Josh (Amy) Solyntjes of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Linda; and his grandmothers, Betty Scharff and Betty Schlemmer.
