Vernon "Bud" Kopecky was born July 16, 1937 in Belle Plaine, IA: the son of Fred and Gladys (Pavelka) Kopecky. He graduated from Clutier High School in 1955. Bud was employed with Funks Seed Company from 1964 to 1982. He then worked at Ciba Seeds operating the fork lift and was a foreman of the bagging crew, from 1982 to 1994, then working for Alliant Production from 1995 until his retirement in 2001. Bud was also a volunteer fireman. He enjoyed spending time with his family and would often entertain them by playing his beloved Polka music on the accordion. Bud was an avid Cubs fan and would go to Chicago to watch them play and often would bring his family and friends along. After he retired, he enjoyed traveling with family and wintered in Benson, AZ. Bud proudly displayed a lighted Christmas wonderland in his front yard year after year.

Bud passed away on Sunday, December 12, 2021 at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer at the age of 84. He is preceded in death by his parents. Bud is survived by his sister, Elaine (David) Manternach of Monticello, IA and five nieces and nephews: Patty Hansen, Linda Hartung, Diane Gray, Duane Manternach and Kevin Manternach.
