Frances Helen Burns, 96, of Vinton, formerly of Marion, passed away Monday, Jan. 3, 2022, at Virginia Gay Nursing Home in Vinton. Due to COVID-19 concerns, A celebration of life will be held at a later date. A private graveside service will be held a Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Frances was born March 14, 1925, in Stone City, Iowa, to Elmer and Mary Helen (Mere) Lathrop. Frances attended school in Stone City and high school at Anamosa. She met her husband Delmar C. Burns during his tour of duty with the United States Navy. They were united in marriage on Feb. 3, 1951, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Marion. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph's Church in Marion.

She had many interests such as genealogy, sewing, quilting, crocheting, reading and cooking. Her favorite sport was baseball and she enjoyed cheering on the Chicago Cubs. She was a life long member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Frances is survived by her daughter, Delores (David) Svoboda of Guttenberg, Iowa; son-in-law, Dwayne Callahan of Mesa, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Mike (Joyce) Svoboda, Sherry (Phil) Carolan, Kim (Steve) Bell, Patty Callahan and Michael Callahan; seven great-grandchildren, Zachary (Amanda), Stephanie (Jake), Jourdan (Colin), Marcus, Tyler (Hanna), Sean and William (Shukri); 10 great-great-grandchildren, Malachai, Uriah, Zion, Titus, Oriana, George, Hobbes, Murray, Mayson and Mujahid; one sister, JoAnn Fetters of Fairfield, Iowa;, along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Delmar; her daughter, Darlene Callahan; two great-granddaughters, Britney Ann Carolan and Cecilia Marie Bell; a great-grandson, Michael Callahan Jr.; and her siblings, Alberta Dirks, Betty Wittenberg, Donna Fults, Harold Lathrop, Elmer Lathrop Jr. and Albert "Butch" Lathrop.

Memorials may be directed to the National Organ Transplant Team in Rochester, Minn.
