Peggy M. Schmelzer, 72, of Kewanee, died Sunday, May 15, 2022, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. Peggy was born March 17, 1950, in Council Bluffs, IA, the daughter of Warren T. and Barbara M. (McCann) Krehbiel. She graduated from Notre Dame High School, Burlington, IA, and attended Scott Community College, Burlington, IA and Black Hawk College. Peggy married Lynn A. Schmelzer on June 3, 1972; he survives.

Peggy is also survived by four children, Christopher (Samanta) Schmelzer, Davenport, Matthew Schmelzer, Kewanee, Mollie Schmelzer, Bettendorf, Kevin (Cayte) Schmelzer, Des Moines; two grandchildren, Sabrina, Miranda; siblings, Dan (Nancy) Krehbiel, Black River Falls, WI, Pat (Vince) Price, West End, NC, Terry (Marie) Krehbiel, Macomb, Ann (Miles) Jones, Hope Mills, NC; brother-in-law, Randy (Cheryl) Smith, Center Point, IA; sister-in-law, Lilian Krehbiel, Omaha, NE; and eleven nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Kate (John) Brophy, Mike Krehbiel; brother-in-law, Harold Schmelzer; and a sister-in-law, Ardis Schmelzer.

Peggy was a devoted wife and mother. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Kewanee. She was an advocate for Freedom House. Peggy enjoyed writing poetry, reading, and attending church. She loved her tulips, daisies and lilacs. Peggy also enjoyed teaching the kids at church. She especially loved spending time with her family.

Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 pm, Thursday, May 19, 2022, at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 am, Friday, May 20, 2022, at First Baptist Church, Kewanee. Chaplain Randy Hroviencik will officiate. Burial will be at 1:00 pm, Friday, June 3, 2022, in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton, IA; Pastor Ryan Schmitz will officiate.
