Surrounded by his loving family, Leonard Mullnix, 80, passed away peacefully at Virginia Gay Hospital Sunday, November 13, 2022. Private services will be held. Public Celebration of Life will be 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, November 19, 2022 at the Mt. Auburn American Legion Hall. Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.

Leonard is survived by his wife, Leslie; sons: Chawn (Julie) Mullnix, Jayson Mullnix, Richard (Jackie) Bear and Chris Bear; daughters: Marlene (Rick) Lassen, Dana (Tom) Hanson, Karen (Virgil) Hootman and Amy (Steve) Van De Walle; 14 grandchildren: Elizabeth, Jacob, Morgan, Riley, Kyle, Trina, Andrew, Abby, Alyssa, Alex, Dylan, James, Lucas and Peyton; several great-grandchildren; sister, Alberta Smith; sister-in-law, Ruth Howrey; two nephews; and best friend, Bruce Mehlert.

Leonard was born June 18, 1942 at Williamsburg, the son of Warren and Nadine (Owen) Mullnix. He attended school in Vinton. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1961-1963. On June 1, 1984, Leonard was united in marriage to Leslie Davis Bear. Throughout his years of employment, Leonard owned Schmitt Hardware in Mt. Auburn, worked at A Y McDonald Supply and was a dredge operator for Coots Material.

In his leisure time, Leonard enjoyed horseshoe pitching, fishing, driving his new boat and wintering with Leslie in Texas where they made many memorable friendships. He was a current member of the Mt. Auburn American Legion and the Iowa Horseshoe Association.
