John Wesley Carter, Jr. died peacefully in Roswell, Georgia on January 11, 2023.

John loved the Lord and his family. He was funny, loving and kind and a great son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.

John was born in Mooresville, North Carolina on June 25, 1939 and was raised in Lancaster, South Carolina. He served in the U.S. Air Force at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska, from 1957 to 1963. He met his wife, Judith Rockwell of Belle Plaine, in Omaha on a blind date. They married on November 22, 1959 and had two daughters, Rebecca and Roberta, while he served at Offutt. Upon honorable discharge from the USAF, John and Judy moved to Belle Plaine, Iowa and they lived and worked on the family farm just outside Belle Plaine. John worked full-time for and retired from Rockwell Collins after 36 years never missing a day of work. John and Judy also lived in Woodstock, Georgia and St. Peters, Missouri to be near family.

John was an active member of the Masonic Lodge and was Master many times. He recently celebrated 50 years at the St Charles Missouri Masonic Lodge on Feb 9, 2022 and told a wonderful, fulfilling story about all the different lodges that he and his father (who got him involved) visited and took part in throughout the years. He was a member of the Belle Plaine Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star in St Charles. He was an active Shriner and drove his 1965 Pontiac Lemans Convertible in many parades with Judy, Berta, Ashley and Drew. John was a long-time member of the United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his daughters, Rebecca Stone of Roswell Georgia, her husband John and son Mitch, and Roberta Roxianne Sheda of St. Peters, Missouri, her husband Tom, daughter Ashley, partner Scott and her son Aden, and son Andrew, wife Caitlyn and children Braden, Eli, Aubrey and Henley. He is also survived by sisters Phyllis Elliott of Lancaster, SC and Wanda Parnell of Augusta, GA. John was preceded in death by Judy his wife of 53 years, and parents John and Mae Carter and brother, David Carter.

Family and friends are invited to join us at 10:00 am for a visitation and at 11:00 am for a service on January 30, 2022 at Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery, Belle Plaine, Iowa. (Military Honors at the Cemetery). In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorial donations be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children at https://lovetotherescue.org.
