Obituaries : Thomas Charles Coder

Thomas Charles Coder, 81, died Friday, February 24, 2023 from natural causes. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home, Vinton with Pastor Brian Reeves officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, March 3, 2023 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Tom was born December 1, 1941 in Anamosa, the son of John and Berneice (Sharpless) Coder. He was a 1961 graduate of Olin High School. He then attended Stevinson Auto and Electrical School in Missouri, graduating in 1964. Tom was a welder and drill operator for Universal Engineering until his retirement.

Tom was a hardworking man. He was the happiest when he was farming, helping neighbors and family with welding projects, cherishing the memories and love of his beloved lab, Red and spending time with his grandchildren. Tom was a past member of the Faith Baptist Church, Vinton.

Tom is survived by his daughter, Lisa (Mark) Pfalzgraf of Cedar Falls; son, Ross (Crystal) Coder of Vinton; seven grandchildren: Michael (Ariana), Kyara, RJ, Emmalee, Olivia, Mason and Caleb; four great-grandchildren: Bella, MJ, Gabi and Amora; former wife and good friend, Loretta (Shadden) Coder of Cedar Rapids; brother, James Coder of AZ; and sister, Patsy Wicks of MO;

Preceding Tom in death were his parents and brothers, Bob and Jerry Coder.

A memorial fund has been established.
