Obituaries : Darwin George Halstead

Darwin George Halstead passed away at his home in Gainesville, Texas on September 25. 2024. A graveside service will be held on November 2, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Bear Creek Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Life at the George G. Luckey Post 57 in Vinton.

Darwin was born on December 4, 1941, in Vinton, Iowa son of George and Mae (Mills) Halstead. Darwin attended Vinton Schools and graduated in 1960.

He joined the Air Force and was trained as a jet engine mechanic.

On July 21, 1963 he married Janice Schoonover in Vinton.

Darwin worked many trades and jobs in his life. He was a farmer, truck driver, jet engine mechanic, commercial painter, and factory worker. He retired from Western Forge in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He and Janice moved to Gainesville, Texas to be near family.

Darwin is survived by his wife Janice and children: Darin (Sandy) Halstead; Darla Halstead; Crystal (Eric) Parker; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, brothers Wayne and Laverne (Mary) Halstead and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother donald and wife Denice and sister-in-law Ellen Halstead.
