Scott was born on January 31, 1964, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Charles and Stephanie (Munger) Kacena. He was a graduate of Marion High School, class of 1982. One of his favorite high school memories was playing on the 1980 Marion Indians 3A football championship team. He went on to attend the University of Iowa, where he graduated in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering. He completed an MBA degree at Iowa in 2001. He was an enthusiastic Iowa Hawkeye sports fan.
On July 1, 1989, Scott was united in marriage to Judith Lynn Junttila at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. They began married life in St. Louis, Missouri, and were blessed with two children, Sam and Abby. Scott was employed by McDonnell-Douglas from 1988 to 1996. The family moved to Cedar Rapids, where Scott was employed by Collins Aerospace as an Engineer and Program Manager, until his retirement in 2024.
Scott was an avid bicyclist. He loved racing, group rides, and going on RAGBRAI. He also enjoyed snowmobiling, boating, snow skiing, traveling, attending concerts, and was a member of New Covenant Bible Church. Scott cherished the relationship he made with Eric and Edmund while volunteering at Big Brothers Big Sisters. Scott was an easy and fun conversationalist, thanks to his witty and subtle sense of humor. His family was very important to him and he loved spending time with them.
