William "Bill" Dean Grieder, 85, of Belle Plaine, IA passed peacefully to Jesus his Savior, surrounded by his family January 20, 2025. Bill passed from complications of Parkinson's Disease.
Services will be held at Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service in Belle Plaine Friday, January 24, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. Join the family as we celebrate the life of Bill with an Open House at the Belle Plaine Country Club until 4:00.
Private family burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Belle Plaine.
Bill was born March 18, 1939 to William and Esther (Vajnar) Grieder in their home on the Cecil Shedenhelm farm north of Belle Plaine.
Bill attended Tama Catholic School through 8th grade as well as his freshman year at Tama High School before moving to Belle Plaine where he graduated from Belle Plaine High School with the Class of '57.
On January 28, 1961 he married Lillian "Katy" Hines of Chelsea at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Belle Plaine.
The couple began their life together and raised five children in the "8th Ave best neighborhood ever".
In August 1965 Bill & Katy purchased Grieder's Standard Station where he showed up daily to visit with his customers well into his late seventies.
Bill enjoyed pulling John Deere antique tractors as part of the Hawkeye Antique Tractor Pullers Assoc. He was also an avid Hawkeye Fan and was a member of the I-Hawks. He enjoyed years of attending Hawkeye football, basketball & wrestling events. Many saw his support of the Hawks by the Tiger Hawk logo on his building next to the station!
Bill also supported the Belle Plaine Plainsmen Football program by being a part of the "chain gang" recording stats 30+ years.
Survivors include his wife of 64yrs, Katy; his children; Denny (Mari) Grieder of Belle Plaine, Denise (David) Selken of Keystone, Deanna (Steve) Becker of Blairstown, Dianna "Lindy" (Jim) Duncalf of Van Horne, Dale "Beav" (Georgia) Grieder of Ankeny.
His grandchildren, Roshaun Gnewuch, Robbie, Brandon & Paul Grieder; Mitchell, Matthew, Aaron, Jonathan & Samuel Becker; Lauren Rae & Nicole Duncalf; Lucas Grieder. As well as the 18 great-grandchildren that he adored.
Bill's brother John (Sue) Grieder of Belle Plaine and his nephews Billy & Nick Grieder.
Bill was proceeded in death by his parents; in-laws, Ray & Lyda Hines; great-grandson, Morgan Grieder; and great-granddaughter, Ruthie Becker.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt Thank You to Joan Seeck, the entire staff of the Keystone Care Center, Essence of Life Hospice and the Belle Plaine Ambulance for the outstanding love and care given to Bill over the last 3yrs.
Memorials will be gifted to the Belle Plaine Ambulance Service.
