I've noticed that life can go from a dull and boring pace to warp speed in no time flat. Right now I'm in the warp speed pattern and missing the dull and boring.

I stumbled in the door after a 12 hour day and collapsed into bed on Friday, vaguely thinking that it felt a little chilly in the house, but I had just come in, and was too tired to ponder it further.

I fell asleep and all night I kept thinking, "My arm is cold."

"Man, now my nose is cold."

As I woke up bleary-eyed and ready for the next day's activities I glanced at the thermostat. 59 degrees it read.

Last week I had an inkling that I should check the gauge on the LP tank and I just didn't follow through. Read 3 x 24 inches of ice to cross outside my front door, and then into the trees and through the snow to get to the tank, it will be fine I figure.

It wasn't.

So Saturday morning, I left the house with my camera in tow, crossed to the LP tank. flipped open the cover to see the gauge which was sitting smack dab on 0%. "At least it's not the furnace," I thought. It seems like every winter the furnace conks out. I proceeded carefully to the car, which was now warmer than I was. Sitting in the sun I had my own solar heat going there, but of course, starting the car also helped.

I called the gentleman that gets to come out on the weekends and save freezing idiots in the winter. "Hi, this is Valerie Close..." "Oh I know where you are, do you need some LP? What's your gauge on?" I sheepishly told him and he chuckled. "I'll be there as soon as I can."

I sat in the car and waited. They have to have someone here before they can turn it back on.

It was warm. My nose was no longer chilly.

I plugged my phone into the cigarette lighter and I worked in the car while I waited.

Finishing up the email just as the truck pulled into the driveway, I watched as the LP guy turned his truck around backing it to line up with the tank. He unrolled the hose and ran it to the tank. A few minutes later I again had heat.

I suppose this summer I should spring for the automatic service where they come out to the house and fill the tank BEFORE it's empty. I'll add it to my list of things to do...and then I'll forget.

Until it gets cold in the house.

Then I'll remember.

Just in case, some winter day, if you don't hear from Vinton Today again, it's because I forgot to fill the LP tank...
