Dear Editor,
As chair of the Vinton Municipal Utility Boards, I am in a unique position to understand and provide insight into the future needs of the utilities.
The long term goal of both utilities is to provide the best possible services at the lowest possible cost to the citizens of Vinton.
The short term need of the electric utility is prudent investment of assets. This includes investment of cash reserves, materials, and workers.
The short term need for the telecommunication utility is operationalizing the fiber network. This work will be accomplished by having a board that is knowledgeable in the telecommunication industry and understands complex financial calculations.
Both boards need leadership that will benefit all the citizens of Vinton. I have personally observed the needed skills demonstrated by both Gerald and Amy. Amy and Gerald's participation on the Vinton Municipal Utility Board is what is needed at this time.
I ask the Mayor of Vinton to appoint them at tonight's council meeting so that the important work that needs done can move forward.

Editor's note: The board appointees are named by the mayor and approved by the council. I believe by law they have to have 5 on the board...if I'm wrong someone on the council please ring in, thanks!
