SOLON - The Vinton-Shellsburg varsity soccer team (14-0) took on the Solon Spartans (11-4) at Spartan Stadium in Solon and earned a 2-0 shutout victory. Gunnar Moen and Damon Swenson scored one goal each and that was all she wrote on a perfect season for the Vikings.

Coach Kyle McAbee's squad finished the regular season the way it started; dominating. The Vikings finished the season with five straight shutouts, which is how V-S opened the campaign. In all the Vikings shutout 11 of their 14 opponents and their goal-differential sits at 89-6 for the year.

The Vikes' attention now turns to the postseason. V-S draws a first-round bye as 2A Substates open Thursday. Next Monday night, the team will host the winner of Thursday's game between Center Point-Urbana and Independence. The Substate final is set for Wedensday night at Karr Athletic Complex.
