Vikette basketball advances to the Regional Final for the first time since 2003-04

VINTON - The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikette varsity basketball team (15-8) took on the Wahlert Catholic Golden Eagles (9-14) inside Garrison Fieldhouse on Feb. 16 and earned a 53-49 win over the Golden Eagles.

Alyssa Griffith and Sophia Kreutner each scored 11 points, Ashlie Meyer added eight points, Brylee Bruce, Kalie Burke and Abby Davis added four points each, and Julia Johnson added nine.

For the first time since 2003-04, the Vikettes have advanced to the Regional Final and they will play the Center Point-Urbana Stormin' Pointers (20-3) at Xavier High School in Cedar Rapids in the 2022 Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) Class 3A Region 3 Championship Game for a chance at the State tournament for the first time since 1998-99.

Ashlie Meyer sank two free throws to seal the deal for the Vikettes to take them they haven't been for 18 years. Tipoff is set for Saturday, Feb. 19, 2022 at 7:00 pm at Cedar Rapids Xavier High School, where the Xavier Saints will on the Marion Wolves at 5:00 PM in the Class 4A Region 2 Semi-finals.
