Photo by Stacy Stillions: Senior VS swimmer Mac Goodell swimming her 100 Butterfly, in which she finished 10th overall at the North Central Swim Conference meet in Decorah October 14.The North Central Swim Conference consists of 9 girls swim teams across the eastern side of Iowa. It's full of strong swimmers and solid teams from smaller schools, all of whom have cooperative agreements to combine district athletics to form one girls swim team (like Vinton-Shellsburg does with Center Point-Urbana). It's always a competitive meet. VS was down 3 girls to injury or illness, so 7 Stormin' Vikettes make the trek to Decorah to compete. That means we only had enough girls for 1 relay in each event, we were short on entries but the team still had a good showing! Olivia Schminke and Brie Carolan both came away with 5th place finishes in their individual events of the 200 IM and 100 Backstroke, respectively. They also teamed up with Tori Elwick and Mac Goodell for a 6th place finish in the Medley Relay, and with Elwick and Maddie Pestka for a 5th place finish in the 200 Free and 400 Free Relay. We had a handful of season best times from various girls, so that's always good to see. We are into the peak week of our training season, our highest yardage and intensity is now. We have our final home meet this Thursday against Williamsburg. Then we start to taper for our district meet for the following two weeks, hoping to having the girls primed but rested for Nov 4!
