On Wednesday evening January 15th the Benton County Development Group Corporation (BDG) had its annual reorganization meeting in the Van Horne Community Center. BDG is a nonprofit tax exempt 501 c 3 corporation charged with the responsibility of supporting the economic growth and community development of the citizens in the BDG service area. The group may receive funding from any number of sources including governmental bodies, public or private corporations and agencies, foundations, partnerships, associations, or individuals.

New officers elected were; President Marlyn L Jorgensen from rural Garrison; Vice President Kristina Kremer from Vinton, Secretary Ed Shaeffer from Shellsburg; Treasure Elise Healzer from Vinton. These four make up the executive committee. All the communities in Benton County may have a representative on the BDG board. In addition the Benton county Board of Supervisors appoints 5 members from the general public to be members of the board. All officers and board serve one year terms.

At this meeting there was a discussion of the Budget for 2014-2015 and the request to the supervisors for funding. A general budget and a request for funds were approved unanimously. The budget will be presented to the supervisors at their January 21st meeting. The next meeting of the BDG board will be held January 29th and the public is always invited and urged to attend.
