Contractor conference to promote energy-efficiency

East-Central Iowa Rural Electric Cooperative (ECI REC) will join other Iowa Touchstone Energy Cooperatives to sponsor the annual “Momentum Is Building” conference February 10-11, 2011, at the Sheraton West Des Moines hotel.

Momentum Is Building offers up-to-date building science information, practical hands-on information and new technology displays for building trades professionals – including homebuilders, electricians and heating-plumbing contractors. Rural electric cooperative personnel from across the state also attend.

Nationally-recognized speakers will share their knowledge on topics including Iowa trends in energy efficient building, National Electrical Code, geothermal heat pumps, insulation fundamentals, hands-on wall building, deep retrofits and best business practices for energy efficiency. Momentum Is Building also includes a trade show so attendees can see and ask questions about new products.

Several sessions will offer CEUs for contractors. The electrical code session on Thursday will offer 3 credits for electricians. The geothermal session on Thursday offers up to 3 credits for HVAC professionals. A bonus session on Friday afternoon after the conference conclusion will offer 2 additional credits for electricians.

Support for the conference is comes from Iowa’s rural electric cooperatives and a grant from the Iowa Energy Center.
