Business : Community banker honored for 71 years of service

The Iowa Bankers Association (IBA) recognized William (Bill) Talen of Farmers Savings Bank & Trust, Traer and Vinton, for 71 years of service to the banking industry.

The IBA “50 Year Banker” luncheon and presentation was part of the 125th IBA Annual Convention held in Des Moines Sept. 18-20, 2011. In addition to Talen’s recognition, fourteen bankers were also recognized for 50 years of service. Richard (Dick) E. Randall of Community Bank, Dunlap was recognized for 70 years of service. “We are fortunate to have dedicated bankers like Bill Talen working for his customers and community for 71 years,” said IBA President & CEO John Sorensen. “Talen’s distinguished tenure of service demonstrates his commitment to serving others – and to making a positive impact in the community and the financial services industry. “

A career banker, Talen started his banking career in his father’s bank in Ogilvie, Minnesota as janitor at the age of 15. He purchased the Farmers Savings Bank in Traer in 1974 and the Brenton Bank in 1988. He is still actively involved as a director, chairman and CEO of Farmers Savings Bank & Trust in Traer and Vinton. In its 125-year history, the Iowa Bankers Association (IBA) has dedicated itself to serving Iowa banks and their employees.
