In Depth - Moneyball

Brad Pitt and the business of baseball slide on to the big screen this week at the Palace. “Moneyball” opens Friday, October 21 and runs through Thursday, October 27 at 7 p.m. every evening, and Monday, October 24 at 2 p.m. “Moneyball” stars Brad Pitt as Billy Beane, a one-time baseball star who flamed out in the big leagues and now works as the general manager for the Oakland Athletics.

'Cats' prepare for show

VSHS CATS cast members create their own cat wigs, based on the Broadway design Community volunteer Teresa Strong (background) is helping VSHS CATS cast members create their own cat wigs, based on the Broadway design. Wigs are constructed of yarn, each piece individually separated and glued to a wig head before styling. Miranda Swallom (Gussie), Maddy Springer (Jennyanydots) and Emma Clingman (Grizabella) work on Grizabella's gray wig.

'CATS' getting ready to Me-Wow you!

Pictured are Katie Hancock (Mungojerrie) and Emma Lippmann  (Rumpleteaser)  VSHS Drama Department, under the direction of Marcy Horst, is gearing  up to present CATS on November 4-6. CATS, by Andrew Lloyd Webber,  based on T.S. Eliot's "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats," is the  longest-running Broadway musical. Cast members are busy purr-fecting  their song and dance routines and learning to move and act like cats.

In Depth - Contagion

  *cough* Lots of big stars at the Palace this week! “Contagion” opens Friday, October 14 and runs through Thursday, October 20 at 7 p.m. every evening, and Monday, October 17 at 2 p.m.   Matt Damon, Jude Law, Kate Winslet, Marion Cotillard, Gwyneth Paltrow, Laurence Fishburne, and Elliott Gould make up the big name cast of “Contagion,” a thriller about a deadly virus that quickly spreads through the human population.

  Crowds have been good this week for “The Help.” If you have not yet cleared your schedule to catch this crowd pleaser – never fear! We’ve got it for a two-week run. Playing for another seven days, “The Help” runs through Thursday, October 6, every evening at 7 p.m., and Monday, October 3 at 2 p.m.

  After intense negotiations between Frank the Booker and Disney Studios, the Palace will play “The Help” in a two-week run, opening this Friday, September 23. “Lion King in 3D” has been pushed back one week and will now open on Friday, October 7. As I write this column, 21 advance tickets have been sold for “The Help.

In Depth - Rise of the Planet of the Apes

  Nooooo!  I’m sure folks heard me all up and down main street as I groaned in complete disbelief and disappointment when I received Frank the Booker’s message that there were no available prints of “The Help” for us this weekend. Instead, the Palace will schedule-swap with “Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

In Depth - Captain America

  “Captain America: The First Avenger” in fabulous RealD 3D plays the Palace Friday, September 9 through Thursday, September 15 at 7 p.m. every night, and Monday, September 12 at 2 p.m. Chris Evans plays Captain America.  Comic book movie fans will remember him as Johnny Storm the Human Torch in the Fantastic Four movies.

In Depth - The Smurfs

  “Smurfs in 3D” plays the Palace Friday, September 2 through Thursday, September 8 at 7 p.m. every evening (except Sunday!).  You can also catch this charming film in matinees on Sunday and Monday, September 4 and 5. Many Palace regulars have rolled their eyes upon hearing “Smurfs” tops the September schedule.

Tickets on sale now for Gary Morris' return to the Palace September 4th

Gary Morris will return to Vinton for a concert Sunday evening, Sept. 4.      [VIDEO]        Gary Morris was playing a show in Utah when he realized how many people still want to hear him sing.      "I was signing autographs after the show when a man walked up to me. He was from Austin Texas," said Morris in an interview with Vinton Today.      That man told Morris that he flew to Utah just to hear him sing.
