Patrons think Gerald and I watch all the movies that come to the Palace, but truthfully, we only find time to see that ones that really pique our interest, and sometimes we even miss those. I think we actually watched more films at the theatre before we got this job.
One of my pet peeves is hearing about a movie from a patron before I’ve had the opportunity to screen it. It’s not that person’s fault, they think I’ve already watched it, and I just can’t squelch their post show enthusiasm by shouting – Stop! I haven’t seen it yet!
Which brings me to my favorite perk about working at the Palace – private showings. If I’m really looking forward to a movie, I’ve been known to come in and run it for myself on a Friday morning before it opens to the general public. If I’m really feeling decadent, I’ll pop a fresh batch of popcorn for myself!
My point – I’m definitely planning to do that this Friday morning! ROBERT DOWNEY, JR!!!
That’s right – “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows” opens Friday, January 6 through Thursday, January 12 at 7 p.m. every evening, and Monday, January 9 at 2 p.m.
True Arthur Conan Doyle fans take issue with Downey’s Sherlock, but really they’re just jealous of his absolute cool. They also find Holmes’ sexy academic sidekick, Watson, portrayed by the very attractive Jude Law, less than authentic.
Although director Guy Ritchie sets his crime solving characters in Victorian London, this movie is every bit a modern high-octane action film. “A Game of Shadows” runs 129 minutes and is rated PG-13 for action and violence, and a bit of drug use. This fast-paced sequel should be fine for your older children and very clever younger puzzle-solvers/budding detectives.
CHAIR CLUB
Donations arrive daily, but we still need your contribution! Thanks so much to those patrons who have given so generously to the cause. Our VIP balcony sample seat will arrive next Monday, January 9. Be sure to check it out in the lobby of the theatre.
‘TIS THE SEASON – I’M TAKING A POLL
Two things I’m curious about – Dr. Pepper is now available to us on the fountain. Should we get it? If we get Dr. Pepper, do we keep Wild Cherry Pepsi?
Also, should I request “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo? For a full week, as a stack, or no way? This movie is rated R, and quite graphic. If you’ve read the series, you know what I mean.
