Patrons think Gerald and I watch all the movies that come to the Palace, but truthfully, we only find time to see that ones that really pique our interest, and sometimes we even miss those. I think we actually watched more films at the theatre before we got this job.

One of my pet peeves is hearing about a movie from a patron before I’ve had the opportunity to screen it. It’s not that person’s fault, they think I’ve already watched it, and I just can’t squelch their post show enthusiasm by shouting – Stop! I haven’t seen it yet!

Which brings me to my favorite perk about working at the Palace – private showings. If I’m really looking forward to a movie, I’ve been known to come in and run it for myself on a Friday morning before it opens to the general public. If I’m really feeling decadent, I’ll pop a fresh batch of popcorn for myself!

My point – I’m definitely planning to do that this Friday morning! ROBERT DOWNEY, JR!!!

That’s right – “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows” opens Friday, January 6 through Thursday, January 12 at 7 p.m. every evening, and Monday, January 9 at 2 p.m.

True Arthur Conan Doyle fans take issue with Downey’s Sherlock, but really they’re just jealous of his absolute cool. They also find Holmes’ sexy academic sidekick, Watson, portrayed by the very attractive Jude Law, less than authentic.

Although director Guy Ritchie sets his crime solving characters in Victorian London, this movie is every bit a modern high-octane action film. “A Game of Shadows” runs 129 minutes and is rated PG-13 for action and violence, and a bit of drug use. This fast-paced sequel should be fine for your older children and very clever younger puzzle-solvers/budding detectives.

CHAIR CLUB

Donations arrive daily, but we still need your contribution! Thanks so much to those patrons who have given so generously to the cause. Our VIP balcony sample seat will arrive next Monday, January 9. Be sure to check it out in the lobby of the theatre.

‘TIS THE SEASON – I’M TAKING A POLL

Two things I’m curious about – Dr. Pepper is now available to us on the fountain. Should we get it? If we get Dr. Pepper, do we keep Wild Cherry Pepsi?

Also, should I request “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo? For a full week, as a stack, or no way? This movie is rated R, and quite graphic. If you’ve read the series, you know what I mean.

VED January 4, 2012, 10:21 pm I am boycotting Dr. Pepper to protest their horrifically annoying \"Dr. Love\" commercial as well as their insulting \"Pepper 10\" commercials that say their stuff ain\'t for girls.. that has got to be the most awful marketing idea ever...
MH January 4, 2012, 10:10 pm Awesome responses, friends (and family!). To Mike asking for Diet Mountain Dew - it\'s already coming in the bottle, as is Diet Sierra Mist. Those will replace the Cranberry Mist, which is almost gone.
D January 4, 2012, 9:10 pm Girl with the.....definitely not a movie for me. Yes, Dr. Pepper is my favorite; I usually get Cherry Pepsi now. Never drink anything diet; I\'d choose water over that!
AC January 4, 2012, 9:06 pm I LOVE DR. PEPPER! I think we\'d have a lot of takers :) Can we just do a weekend stack? Not sure if we\'d be super busy with a full week...
EH January 4, 2012, 6:19 pm Do NOT get rid of the cherry pepsi mother! That\'s my favorite pop to drink at the movies!!
EH January 4, 2012, 5:28 pm YES! Dr. Pepper.
BJ January 4, 2012, 4:46 pm Would love a grown-up movie! Please, please, please, please bring us something interesting and evocative! BAM! :)
JZ January 4, 2012, 3:35 pm Girl with the:
Definitely going see it on a big screen somewhere. Should I run right out or will it be coming to the Palace? And ... when, so I know if I will be here or elsewhere and should see it now while I have the chance?
MG January 4, 2012, 1:53 pm Not sure about the Dr. Pepper/Pepsi idea.....but how about having a few Diet Mountain Dew bottles in the fridge as well?
M January 4, 2012, 1:24 pm Yes, get Dragon Tattoo!
JgLB January 4, 2012, 1:19 pm I am with you on Sherlock Holmes! I view it as a action/thriller buddy movie and NOT a Sherlock Holmes! This makes it a fun movie with two actors I really love to watch! I do hope we get The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo for a full week. I poop out before a 9:00 PM show, and sometime miss movies I really wanted to see. As far as the Dr. Pepper issue? Dr. Pepper is my favorite soda and would LOVE for you to have the diet too! :D Am I pushing too hard? Looking forward to seeing Sherlock and Watson!
Jill
