Rated G! There are so few films made for the “general audience” these days – you won’t want to miss the ‘Munks and “Ettes! “Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked” plays the Palace Friday, January 13 through Thursday, January 19 at 7 p.m. every night, and Saturday and Monday, January 14 and 16 at 2 p.m.
The Chipmunks and the Chipettes take a cruise and end up shipwrecked on a deserted island. Or so they thought!
We’ve stocked up on treat trays, Skittles and polished off the booster seats – bring on the kiddos!
We’ve also changed out the mop head and purchased a new vacuum, but we’re never quite ready for the mess that remains following a children’s movie. Phew! Special thanks to those families who pick up their trash following the film!
POLL RESULTS
Oh, my gosh! Thanks so much for your informative and helpful responses to my two-question poll last week. Over 50 Palace patrons responded via email, Facebook, Twitter, and Vinton Today.
Regarding my Dr. Pepper/Cherry Pepsi inquiry – the vote was split. Turns out drink of choice is definitely a family thing for a lot of folks.
Ryan Davis – You have to keep Cherry Pepsi, it’s a Davis family favorite.
Randy Scheel – Hey, Marcy – For your poll: The girls all like Dr. Pepper. But here’s the catch, they also like Cherry Pepsi. But given the choice, 2 out of 3 would choose Dr. Pepper. I’m a Pepper, he’s a Pepper, She’s a Pepper, We’re a Pepper. Wouldn’t you like to be a Pepper, too. Be a Pepper. Drink Dr. Pepper.
FYI - Randy is not the only one who sang me the jingle.
Here’s the good news – we’re keeping both! Right now there is Cherry Pepsi on one machine and Dr. Pepper on the other.
And for the really, really good news – I talked to Pepsi and in three weeks they will be installing new machines with eight instead of six choices on each. So, we will now offer, Pepsi, Cherry Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Diet Mountain Dew, Dr. Pepper, Diet Dr. Pepper, Sierra Mist, and Mug Rootbeer. The Sierra Mist Free will come off the fountain, but we will offer it in a bottle.
Regarding “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” – we’ll be getting that in a late show/matinee stack. Many readers of the series begged for it. Jeff Peterson has already seen it , and left the following message on my cell phone.
Hey, Marcy, I was just reading your newsletter this morning, and I have to tell you that I saw the Tattoo movie over Christmas. And I thought that movie followed the book as closely as you could make a movie, and the girl who played the tattoo girl, all the characters, were exactly as I envisioned. Yeah, it’s a heavy R, but to me if you haven’t read it, it would be an interesting movie, if you like that kind of movie. I went to it thinking Vinton would never get it, but I have a feeling a lot of people have read that book. It will be interesting to see what kind of crowd you get. It’s a really good movie – like I said, really followed the book.
Only two patrons out of 50 said no don’t bother. However, all those who wanted it said to get it in a stack, and be really careful not to admit the younger kids.
Sooo….as Frank the booker is ever-faithful to my requests, when possible…..our February schedule includes “The Adventures of Tintin” stacked with “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” followed by “War Horse,” (probably half of you who responded about “Tattoo” asked for “Warhorse”) “Beauty and the Beast in 3D," and “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.”
Should be another big month at the Palace!
My next question – Kevin with Pepsi offered me a small brewed ice tea machine. Would that interest anyone?
Also, I tried in December for George Clooney’s “The Descendants,” but Fox Searchlight won’t release that film for less than a three-week run until after the Oscars. We’ll have another Oscar Month in March. Which Academy picks interest you?
