Megan Hopper named member of Luther College Concert Band
Megan Hopper of Dysart, Iowa is a member of the Luther College 2014-15 Concert Band music ensemble.
Hopper is the child of Duane and Sherri Hopper of Dysart. She is majoring in elementary education at Luther. Hopper is a 2012 graduate of Union High School.
The Luther College Concert Band was formed in 1878, laying the foundations for what would become the college's long-standing tradition of musical excellence.
Casey Tecklenburg named member of Luther College Nordic Choir
Casey Tecklenburg of Dysart, Iowa is a member of the Luther College 2014-15 Nordic Choir music ensemble.
Tecklenburg is the son of Joe and Shary Tecklenburg of Dysart. He is majoring in music at Luther. Tecklenburg is a 2012 graduate of Union High School.
Nordic Choir, founded in 1946, enjoys national and international acclaim as a premier collegiate choral ensemble in the United States.
Jacob Bunge named member of Luther College Norsemen
Jacob Bunge of Vinton, Iowa is a member of the Luther College 2014-15 Norsemen music ensemble.
Bunge is the son of Mark & Karen Bunge of Vinton. He is majoring in music at Luther. He is a 2014 graduate of Vinton-Shellsburg High School.
Norsemen is one of six auditioned choral ensembles at Luther College. Established in 1981, the group is comprised of first-year men, selected each fall and spring by audition.
UW-Stout to hold commissioning ceremony
University of Wisconsin-Stout department of military science will hold its winter commissioning ceremony for Army ROTC cadets in the Northwoods Battalion at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, in the Riverview Ballroom at UW-River Falls.
UW-Stout, UW-Eau Claire and UW-River Falls comprise the Northwoods Battalion in northern Wisconsin. ROTC stands for Reserve Officers’ Training Corps.
IOWA 4-H FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES SCHOLARSHIPS FOR 2015
The Iowa 4-H Foundation announces its 2015 scholarship program for current or former 4-H members
planning to attend college in the fall of 2015.
The Iowa 4-H Foundation has announced applications are now available for its 4-H scholarship
program. Approximately 80 scholarship opportunities valued at over $73,000 will be awarded.
Vinton Garden Club members gather for potluck at VGH
The Vinton Garden Club member of National Garden Clubs, Inc., District II, and Central Region met 11:00 am December 3, 2014 at Virginia Gay Hospital cafeteria for a potluck dinner by members. Had nice assortment of GOOD food!
President Fran Stueck called the meeting to order at 12:00 pm.
Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance and conservation pledge.
Vinton Garden Club to plan flower show, other events for 2015
The Vinton Garden Club member of National Garden Clubs, Inc., District II and Central Region met at 1:00 pm November 19, 2014 at Vinton Public Library with Michelle Foshi-Gibson as hostess.
President Fran Stueck called the meeting to order at 1:00 pm. Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance and the conservation pledge. Six members answered the roll call “do you grow orchids?”.
BENTON COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY ANNOUNCES ENDOWMENT FUND
The Benton County Historical Society has established an endowment fund with the Benton County Community Foundation. Contributions are currently being sought to build the endowment to ensure that there will be an income stream available for many years in the future.
Until now, fundraising for the Historical Society has been for projects or when a crisis occurs.
Local students present at Scholarship Celebration Day
Area students will present during Undergraduate Scholarship Celebration Day, held Dec. 11 at Central College. The event will provide students with the opportunity to showcase their research and projects in a variety of disciplines.
Hailey Benson of Newhall is a junior studying biochemistry. Her presentation is called "The Harmala Alkaloids and their Correlation with Bees.
