Boot Camp: Kids, adults keeping in shape at Riverside Park

Children stretch at the beginning of the Boot Camp. A total of 86 adults and 13 kids have been participating in a fitness "Boot Camp" with Alexa Schirm and Julie Lessig. The youngest participants met at 9 a.m. again today, where they did a variety of warm-ups and exercises, including the tire run. Fun Fair Entertainment and Activities Just For Kids

    At the 2012 Iowa State Fair "Nothing Compares" to the kids activities and entertainment all free with gate admission. From Blue Ribbon Kids to the Fun Forest Stage and family-friendly fun in the Kids' Zone, Fairgoers will always have something to see or do. The Fair is set August 9-19. The Kids' Zone - a special area packed with food, games and entertainment - is planned with young Fairgoers in mind.

More Thrills with Midway Discounts at the 2012 Iowa State Fair

  "Nothing Compares" to the heart-stopping thrill rides on the Midway at the 2012 Iowa State Fair. With a new ride and a variety of amusement savings packages, Fairgoers can enjoy even more entertainment. The Fair is set August 9-19. Fairgoers can save big at the Midway by planning ahead for this year's Fair. Purchase a set of five Midway tickets for $13; each ticket is good for one ride.

Luther College Announces 2012 Graduates

  Luther College held commencement ceremonies for the Class of 2012 Sunday, May 20 at 10 a.m. in Luther College's Carlson Stadium. Kayla Kirchner of Garrison, Iowa, received the bachelor of arts degree in biology. Chad Sonka of Van Horne, Iowa, received the bachelor of arts degree in music. Sara Walston of Vinton, Iowa, received the bachelor of arts degree in elementary education.

Nothing Compares to Iowa State Fair's Free Grounds Entertainment

  Iowa State Fair's free grounds entertainment will fill the Fairgrounds with family fun August 9-19. These grounds acts are just part of the more than half a million dollars of entertainment available to Fairgoers free with gate admission. "Nothing Compares" to this mix of art, music, comedy and animals that is sure to provide fun for all ages! The Kids' Zone will be packed with kid-friendly food, entertainment and activities for the youngest Fairgoers.

Meet the 2012 Benton County Fair Queen candidates

Christine Ballard Eight young ladies have entered the 2012 Benton County Fair Queen contest, although one of them (Willow Huber) will be at the Girls Nation event that week, and will not be among those interviewing with the judges. The candidates this year include:  Taylor Jo Arens Taylor is the daughter Dan and Dena Arens.  She has two brothers, Tyler and Nathan.

Vinton Night: CR Kernels recognize small towns, armed forces personnel

Vinton residents watch the fireworks after the game. Bill Ervin threw out a first pitch. Ann Lent gave the official announcement to "Play Ball." Several other Vinton residents, mostly children, participated in the annual Vinton Night at Veterans Stadium. Vinton also shared the evening with Independence and the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight. The special jerseys worn by the Kernels that night were sold in a silent auction to raise money for futur flights.

Amy Van Wechel joins Mossman & Mossman law firm

Amy Van Wechel has joined the Mossman & Mossman firm as an attorney. When Amy (Landrus) Van Wechel was in high school she worked with John Mossman at the Vinton swimming pool, where Amy (and John’s brother, Burns) were lifeguards and John was a manager.  Now, Amy has begun working with John again, helping people in a different way. She is now an attorney at the Mossman & Mossman law firm, working with John and his father, Mark.
