Alyse Cheyne, from Hudsonville, Mich., is a member of Cedar 6 in NCCC’s Class 19. She arrived in Vinton on February 5, 2013, to start her 10-month service term on a team of people between the ages of 18 and 24. Cedar 6 is made up of nine people from across the country, and they are serving together in a number of service projects across the North Central Region throughout their term.
“I chose to do national service because I have a passion for helping people,” Alyse said, when asked why she joined NCCC. “I also enjoy working hard and building up communities through hands-on experiences.”
Alyse brings several skills with her to NCCC, which help her be successful throughout her term with the program. She has skills in flexibility, listening, patience, and honesty. She also has a good work ethic.
Prior to joining NCCC, Alyse was working at a bagel shop and attending school. She attended one year at Saginaw Valley State University. She graduated from Hudsonville High School in May 2011. After finishing the program, Alyse hopes that her experience in NCCC will help guide her toward what she wants to do.
Cedar 6 is currently serving from August 9 to September 26 with Habitat for Humanity (HFH) of Omaha in Omaha, Neb. The team is assisting with initial site construction on up to four homes in preparation for the Fall Framing Frenzy. This work allows HFH of Omaha to finish homes during colder months with house dedications slated for Spring 2014.
