Chris Hyde, from Canton, Connecticut is serving on team Maple 2 in AmeriCorps Class 20. He arrived in Vinton on February 11 to start his 10-month service term. Maple 2 is made up of nine people from across the country who will serve together around the Midwest.
Chris says “I think that service is important. So many people in my community have helped me reach where I am today, and I think I owe it to them to give back and help others reach their full potential.”
Following graduation from Trinity College, Chris worked several part-time jobs and continued his education at Tunxis Community College.
Maple 2’s first round project is at Camp Ohiyesa, Holly, Michigan
Maple 2 is helping facilitate Camp Ohiyesa and Camp Nissokone’s spring Outdoor Education programs to include: program facilitation and camp support. Members are being trained to facilitate Outdoor Education programs for surrounding youth programs and schools. Maple 2 is also assisting with restoring a 15 year old zip line tower, paint 100 year old facility building, and restore 2 voyager canoes that were originally built by a NCCC team in 2001.
