On Sunday, July 27th, Bethlehem Lutheran Church presented the seventh gift of $101 to the Below 100 initiative. Below 100 was conceived to attempt to reduce law enforcement deaths. The line of duty deaths has not been below 100 since 1944. This program is not about statistics, but are seminars held around the United States that challenge police officers to take individual and collective responsibility for the decisions and actions that contribute to their personal safety. It also encourages police departments to promote a culture of safety throughout-to make that culture of safety the norm. The five tenets of Below 100 are: 1. Wear your seatbelt 2. Watch your speed 3. Wear your vest 4. WIN-What's Important Now 5. Remember Complacency Kills Through this program and the implementation of these tenets, it is hoped that our streets and our law enforcement officers can be kept safer. It was our pleasure to present this gift of $101 to Lieutenant Eric Dickinson of the Vinton Police Department, and a non-compensated trainer for Below 100.
