From September 24 to November 7, AmeriCorps NCCC team Oak 5 will be doing some hands on tasks with Habitat for Humanity in Marquette County, Michigan. With their hands, hammers and knowledge of power tools, the team has been partaking in building a house from the ground up.

Oak 5 has been engaged in multiple other tasks such as installing baseboards, painting, flooring, carpeting, insulating, sheeting, roofing, door installation and helping in the Habitat ReStore.

"It has been an interesting experience laying baseboard instead of tearing it out" says Ashley, referring to their prior project where they were on disaster deployment. "Were really are 'building the dream', I simply cannot wait to see the finished project" she adds.

Habitat for Humanity's mission is to build affordable, decent homes for low income families. The family whom is eligible for the home must participate in community service with Habitat for Humanity for 250 hours per adult, which lessens the cost of the home for the family.
