The Vinton Garden Club, member of National Garden Clubs, Inc., District II and Central Region met at 1:00 pm at the home of Sharen Stueck for the February 25, 2015 meeting, which was postponed to March 2 due to snowstorm. The program was on “Saving Our Wildlife and Native Wild Flowers,” speaker was Jason Gritsch, a Benton County DNR Private Lands Technician.

At 1:50 pm, after the program, President Fran Stueck called the meeting to order. Eight members attending, recited the Conservation Pledge and then roll call was taken with question on “what do you do to preserve soil and water?

Secretary Joyce Bratten read the January minutes. Treasurer report was given by Sharen Stueck.

Fran passed out our new 2015 club books, she did a good job typing them up also she donated the time and the paper for them. Also changed the name to “Leap to the Future” with pictures of frogs and flowers on the cover.

Fran had attended the Buchanan County Master Gardener Symposium in Independence, said they had a good program.

Reminder that the Benton County Master Gardener Extravaganza is April 18, they lowered the cost to $30. held at the Skating Rink in Vinton from 8:00am to 3:30 pm.

Fran is gonna check with Parks and Rec and at Fairgrounds to see if they want us to plant a tree for Arbor Day April 24. There is a new tree called Red Rocket shade tree, Frazier Nursery has ordered some.

Therapy at Cedar Vallley Ranch will be Tuesday April 7 at 9:00 am, all members need to help.

The District II meetingh is May 1st at Hiawatha with Good Earth Garden Club as hostess.

The clubs next meeting will be at 10:00 am, March 25, we will tour Culver's Greenhouse in Marion. Lunch at Cheddars in Cedar Rapids, hostess will be Susie Hansen. Please RSVP to the hostess 4 days prior the meeting.
