Name: Marty Fankhanel
Hometown: Detroit Lakes, Minnesota
Marty Fankhanel is serving as a Field Team Leader with the NCCC Vinton campus where he will be leading a team of 10-12 Corps Members while the team serves on projects throughout the North Central Region through November 2012.
Marty brings five years of teaching and working with Elementary through Adult Education to his Team Leader position. He has been trained as a Wilderness First Aider for five years and also been a Camp First Aider in the role of a Nurse for some time.
Marty graduated from Concordia College in 2011 with a German Education K-12 degree. He learned about NCCC through his sister, who works as program manager of Reading Corps, Twin Cities Metro, who told him about the program and from there he researched through NCCC Alums and advocates.
Prior to NCCC, Marty was teaching languages and history in High School classrooms. After he completes his Team Leader year, he hopes to continue learning and exploring avenues of service either though the State Department or abroad. He also hopes to continue to teach.
