VINTON GARDEN CLUB

The Vinton Garden Club member of the National Garden Clubs, Inc. Central Region, Federated Garden Clubs of Iowa, Inc. and District II met in Cedar Rapids at Master Gardener Deb Walser home

to see her ponds and gardens. She gave a very good walk through and educational program. Then members went to Vito’s for lunch and the meeting.

President Fran Stueck called the meeting to order. Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance and the Conservation Pledge. Six members answered roll call by the question “What interest you have in ponds?”

Secretary Joyce Bratten read the minutes from the June meeting. There was no meeting in July because of the Fair. There were no corrections so minutes are approved as read.

Treasurer Connie McClintock was absent. Fran had the treasurer’s report. There were no questions for treasury report, so it was filed for audit.

The club received a thank you from Cedar Valley Ranch for helping the residents plant flowers.

A thank you from Phil Borleske for the 2 books the club donated to the library in Phyllis Borleske’s name. A thank you card from Sandy Wales, one of the Fair Judges.

Everyone working getting new members to join.

On July 5,2012 members Anne Dake, Cam Wood, Joyce Bratten, Ruby Clemens and Fran Stueck met at the Annex for helping the residents make small flower arrangements for their rooms. The club members used flowers from their gardens.

A card will be sent to Connie McClintock.

In spite of the weather there were a total of 34 exhibitors & 151 entries at the fair flower and hort. show.

Members chose to work in the perennial bed in the Tilford Outdoor classroom and at the Blue Star Marker flowerbed on Sat. Sept. 1st at8:30 a.m. unless rain.

Fran attended the Judges Symposium on Aug. 27 & 28. They studied creative design and illumnary on Monday and studied gladiolus and planters on Tuesday.

Fran mentioned the upcoming Garden Therapy at the Lutheran Home on Sept 18, 2012 at 3pm.

Members are to bring flowers from their gardens that day.

Fran will take the Smokey Bear & Woodsy Owl contest rules to the grade schools.

Joyce Bratten, Anne Dake and Luana Hawkins are on the nominating committee to get officers for the next two years.

There was no more business so Fran adjourned the meeting.
