Name: Tavaris Banks

Hometown: Macon, Ga.

Tavaris is serving as a member of the NCCC FEMA Corps team Pine 3 at the Vinton Campus. He chose to participate in NCCC FEMA Corps because he says that he was raised to help others and wanted to make a greater impact on the community as a whole.

Tavaris graduated from Westside High School in 2009 and attended Fort Valley State University where he studied early childhood education. After his service term ends he plans to complete his degree or pursue a career with FEMA.

Tavaris is no stranger to national service. His mom, sister, and aunts have all served as AmeriCorps VISTA members (Volunteers in Service to America). He learned about NCCC FEMA Corps from his mom and decided to apply.
