Name: Kindra Akridge

Hometown: Hobbs, N.M.

Kindra is serving as a member of the NCCC FEMA Corps team Pine 1 at the Vinton Campus. She first learned about AmeriCorps NCCC while participating in a state/national AmeriCorps program at her college. She chose to participate in NCCC FEMA Corps because she wants to do her part to change the world. She says that she wants to put in an effort to make positive changes in places that desperately need it due to the devastation of natural and manmade disasters.

Kindra graduated from Hobbs High School in 2008 and New Mexico State University in May 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. After her service term ends she plans to return to school to seek a professional degree in psychology.

Kindra had actually applied to NCCC once before during her undergraduate studies but the timing was wrong. She says that she is glad that she waited to serve since she is better prepared to do what she is called to do in the program. This year she hopes to make her hometown proud and present her country to the best her ability.
