On Saturday November 2, 2013, four members of AmeriCorps NCCC FEMA Corps Team Pine 1 began their first day on a three day project for The Shepherd of the Hills Humane Society in Branson, Missouri. Two groups of two Corps members each served at both the Adoption Center of the Humane Society and the soon to open Humane Society Used Furniture Store where the proceeds go to the animals of the Humane Society.

Corps member Shelby and team leader Zach, helped at the adoption center where they cleaned out dog and cat kennels and gave some of the animals exercise by taking them for walks and giving them much needed love and attention. Shelby Helms couldn’t wait for the opportunity to spend the day with the animals, “I was so excited when I found out I’d get to spend the day helping cats and dogs. It was a great experience and really made me feel good about the work I’m doing with AmeriCorps NCCC FEMA Corps.”

Corps members Megan and Keith worked at the remodel of the Humane Society Used Furniture store where they helped paint over 216 square feet of walls and ceilings and helped the contractor around the facility whenever they had the chance.

The remainder of the Pine 1 Family was excited to continue their good work on Tuesday, November 5 and Saturday, November 10, where they continued their work at the used furniture store and helping re-do the floors at the adoption center.
