Name: Sarah Moffitt
Hometown: South Kingstown, RI
NCCC Team: Oak 7
Sarah graduated from The Prout School in 2010. She considers her greatest skills to be determination, passion, an excitement to learn new things and a willingness to share her knowledge with others. After graduating high school, she applied for AmeriCorps NCCC. While awaiting the decision of her AmeriCorps application, she enrolled in the University of Rhode Island and completed her first semester before taking a leave of absence to participate in NCCC. Sarah found out about NCCC from a high school teacher with whom she worked closely during her time with in the recycling club. When asked why she chose to do a term of national service, Sarah said, “I have a passion for service. I find that in giving I receive, and I am at my happiest. It is my way of giving back for all gifts and privileges I have received. I am unsure of the path in life I want to take. I wish to actively pursue my path through this year of service, rather than wait idly by for passion to find me”. After finishing this year with NCCC, Sarah plans on going back to school and finishing her degree.
Sarah and Oak 7 just wrapped up there project with LARRI (Lake Area Recovery of Indiana) where they were assisting with the rebuilding of homes for the elderly, disabled and low income families, who lack the resources to do so themselves. The team worked on such tasks as installing flooring, trim carpentry, installing windows and doors, and painting. Oak 7 left on Thursday, May 5 for their next project in Almond, WI where they are assisting Camp Helen Brachman with getting ready to open for the summer.
