NCCC Dinosaurs stomp around Vinton

By: Phil and Gaby

An AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) team is nesting right here in Vinton for the next eight weeks. The self-proclaimed Dinosaurs, team Maple 4 is helping the Vinton Parks and Recreation Department restore many of its facilities before the summer boom of usage.

This is the first AmeriCorps NCCC team to work in Vinton this year on a long term project. The Dinosaurs are eager to learn more about the Vinton community through this project. They will be living in the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School, giving them the perfect opportunity to go out and experience everything that Vinton has to offer.

Maple 4’s first task is to scrape and paint the recreation center’s pool and slide. Gregory Day of Chicago, Ill. says “That slide looks like a lot of fun. I can’t wait until it’s finished.” The team is looking to complete the pool before its opening Memorial Day weekend.
