Et cetera : AmeriCorps NCCC FEMA Corps Class 19 Member Spotlight: Laura Dennis

Name: Laura Dennis Hometown: Clarkson, Ky. Laura is serving as a member of the NCCC FEMA Corps team Pine 3 at the Vinton Campus. She chose to participate in AmeriCorps NCCC FEMA Corps because she wants to give back to the world around her and help others who are going through disasters and tragedies. She says that a term of national service forces a person to erase the distractions of everyday life and commit fully to the cause. Laura graduated from Grayson County High School in 2007 and Western Kentucky University in 2012 where she majored in public relations and minored in sociology. After her service term ends she hopes to find a job doing public relations for a non-profit. Someday she wants to become a missionary and continue helping others abroad. An experience that has had a big impact on Laura was going on a service trip to Guatemala. While there she and her companions handed out care packages and visited schools and an orphanage. At the orphanage they played with the children, cooked, cleaned, and did basic carpentry.
