Quilt of Valor: Vinton veteran Henry Van Eschen receives gift

Henry Van Eschen became one of the latest of the 167,000 or so American veterans who have received a Quilt of Valor on Sunday. The former World War II ambulance driver, teacher and insurance provider received his gift, made by Rita Moore, on Saturday, at the Virginia Gay Hospital's Nursing and Rehab Center.

AMVETS Commander Denny Miller salutes as VSHS students hold the new large flag the veterans group recently purchased. A 45-foot long U.S. flag, carried by Vinton-Shellsburg High School students, covered a portion of the football field, as veterans marched to midfield for the National Anthem during pre-game ceremonies on Friday.
