VGH and VGH Foundation to hold drive through Health Fair

Virginia Gay Hospital, the Virginia Gay Hospital Foundation, and an extensive list of health, safety, and wellness partners will be offering the fair as a drive-thru event bringing it to each of the four communities with a Virginia Gay Family Medical Clinic: Atkins, Urbana, Van Horne, and Vinton.  Free grab bags filled with resources, tips, information, and freebies will be offered one per family while supplies last during the week of October 12-15.

VS Post Prom Fundraising: Godfather’s Pizza Cards and Handmade Pies

The Vinton-Shellsburg 2021 Post Prom Committee is excited to announce two new local fundraising events:Thanks to the generosity of John’s Qwik Stop, we’re selling Godfather’s Pizza punch cards for $15. Buy one large Godfather’s pizza, get a free Godfather’s mini pizza, and this card is good for 10 punches! That’s over $50 in savings!Also, we’re pre-selling apple crumb, cherry crumb, and pumpkin pies, just in time for the Holidays! Pies are $12/each.

Shellsburg American Legion Annual Fall Fish Fry Friday October 23

The Shellsburg American Legion Annual Fall Fish Fry will be on Friday, October 23 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.  The event is Curbside Pickup only.  Some limited delivery is also available.  The meal will be 3 pieces of fish, a baked potato (with butter and sour cream (in containers), coleslaw and a cupcake. Cost: Adults: $10, Children: (5-12): $6,  Children 4 & Under are Free.

Union student facing open heart surgery

Ashton Mullen, a member of the Union High School, will be having open heart surgery in Rochester, Minnesota on October 21st. Ashton was born with heart issues and had his first open-heart surgery at 1 week old and had 3 more surgeries in his first year.  To help cover the medical expenses associated with the upcoming surgery, a fundraiser for Ashton Mullen's family has been set up.

The Lions Club will hold Final Tenderloin Tuesday, October 13th

The Vinton Lions Club will be hosting our final 2020 "Tenderloin Tuesday" on Tuesday, October  13th at Celebration Park (5-7 PM). We will be providing our full menu including Tenderloin sandwiches, Hot dogs, Potato coins, Funnel cakes, and Pop/water.In addition, we will be serving FREE snow cones to all the kids!So, bring the whole family to this special event.

Fundraiser to benefit Easton Lindeman October 10

This past February, Easton Lindeman then age 2, son of Corey and Samantha was diagnosed with high-risk neuroblastoma, a type of cancer that affects his adrenal glands, spinal column, and bone marrow. Neuroblastoma is a cancer that develops from immature nerve cells found in several areas of the body. Treatment for Easton started right away.

Christmas Parade Scheduled for November 19, 2020

The annual kickoff to the Christmas season in Vinton will begin on Thursday, November 19, 2020 this year.The 13th Annual Veterans Patriotic Christmas Parade will kick off at 6 p.m. that evening. All local residents, businesses, organizations and churches are invited to join the event. (Please, no Santa, as he is already visiting and will arrive at the end of the parade.

Trick or Treating hours set for Vinton

The council discussed the official trick or treating hours for this Halloween and have decided that the hours will be 5-7:00 p.m. (on Halloween night) The council felt that residents who wish to participate should be able to do so and they recommend using the CDC guidelines.A couple of the area churches will host Trunk or Treat events this year. Blessed Hope will begin their event at 3:00 p.
