Dysart Development Corporation holding Two Events on Saturday, June 15
On Saturday, June 15, there will be two events held in Dysart.The Dysart Development Corporation (DDC) will be sponsoring the 12th Annual Back Roads Vintage Market, from 9am-2pm on Main Street in Dysart. The 12th annual vintage, antique, hand-made, re-purposed, and vintage-inspired market is filled with one of a kind things, big or small, all made, refurbished or reimagined from local vendors.
"Anyplace but Here" author Sheriff Tony Thompson to speak Thursday, 6:00 p.m.
Blackhawk County Sheriff Tony Thompson, author of the book, "Anyplace But Here," will be speaking at the Vinton Public Library on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. The library is located at 510 2nd Ave., in Vinton.Join us as Sheriff Thompson speaks with us about his book, "Anyplace But Here: The Uncomfortable Convergence Between Mental Illness and the Criminal Justice System.
Food for Thought: June 18-August 6
Food for Thought is a program that will only be available for a few weeks this summer at the Vinton Public Library. The program will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. so that you can pick a time that works for you!Food for Thought will educate children on measuring food and trying new things. Join us at the Vinton Public Library for Jedi Adventure with Toby Kid!The Jedi hope to find those with the power of the Force (service to others). Their mission is to help save the resources of a newly discovered planet from the Dark Side's (ignorance) plundering. Readers will learn about the balance of ecosystems and habits. The object lesson on how to preserve biodiversity for future generations will be reinforced every time they use the Force.

Center Point Historical Society presents "On the Wapsi" June 23
Outdoorsman and Cedar Rapids Gazette columnist Orlan Love will give a free talk about the Wapsipinicon River on Sunday, June 23, at 2 p.m. entitled "On the Wapsie" at the Center Point Historical Society Depot Museum, 700 E. Washington.“I was born and raised in Quasky,” Orlan said, “and I’ve been running around on that river for 55 years.”The Historical Society’s 2024 theme is Natural History.
