Troy and Margaret Krug of Vinton have been square dancing for more than 30 years, and are hoping more dancers will join them.
The 49th Iowa State Square Dance Convention takes place this weekend. Margaret hopes the event will inspire new square dancers, and re-inspire former dancers.
Troy and I have been square dancing since 1977 and 1979," said Margaret.
They are currently members of the Rapid Eights Square and Round Dance Club in Cedar Rapids. The club dances the first and third Friday of each month at the First Baptist Church in Marion. Margaret said that Wes, Elaine and Alan Bookmeier, Vinton residents, also danced in that time frame but due to health issues are no longer able to take part. Evelyn VanDeusen from Vinton is still dancing on rare occasions. Larry and Adrianne Nelson from Dysart (winter in the South) dance yet and Adrianne teaches Round Dance.
"I know there are a couple more from Urbana, Toledo and another from Dysart," she said. "We would like to get the information out in the area to let people know we are still active and recruit some new dancers. We need more dancers to take part."
Below is the convention schedule. Contact Margaret Krug at dancingstars_7677@yahoo.com for more information.
