To. Not Just Through.

Vinton is preparing for RAGBRAI (July 28, when the riders come through Vinton during the middle of the day; see an earlier story HERE)

On the surface, you may not have noticed much, but the evidence is starting to pop up throughout town….the streets along the route are being treated, clean up is being done, groups are meeting, churches are meeting, and teams are planning….

Behind the scenes, the plans are rolling forward. The entertainment is in place, the venue layout is being finalized, vendors are signing up, equipment is being reserved and volunteers are being recruited.

The buzzing is getting louder. Something big is coming to Vinton! RAGBRAI isn’t just coming through Vinton, it’s coming TO Vinton. The entire community of Vinton is sharing in this unique opportunity to show off our hometown…we all get to take part in making Vinton special and unique to the thousands (literally!) of people that have never heard of, OR been to Vinton, before! We all get the chance to imprint our hometown in the minds and memories of these people who will be talking about RAGBRAI the rest of their lives. We locals already know, and have always known what a unique town Vinton is, that’s why we live here.…now we have the chance to let everyone else see for themselves what we are so proud of!

This event is coming, it is happening, and it’s going to be good! With your help, we can make sure that this is the GREATEST stop on their entire route!

Look at the picture above….WE NEED YOUR HELP! We need help with set up on Wednesday night, we need help with crowd “assistance” when the riders get here, we need help keeping the streets/sidewalks clean & clear for our guests, and we need lots of help with teardown and clean up when our visitors depart for Cedar Rapids. It’s going to take hundreds of hands to get ready, and hundreds more to return us to normal. WE NEED YOU. If all you have is an hour to spare, that’s ok, we need it! If you aren’t able to lift, that’s ok, we have LOTS of other tasks you can do! If you can’t help at all, but still want to be a part, that is just fine ~ we want you to line the curbs along the route and cheer our guests along! Welcome them on their way in, and thank them on their way out.

Contact a committee member today, to sign up for whatever way that you can help.

Members are: Nathan Hesson, David Redlinger, Jeff Peterson, Matt Salger, Duane Randall, Tami Stark and Andy Lent.

JK May 23, 2012, 4:02 pm Why didn\'t you put some facts in about the event, like date and are they riding through or staying the night.
Editor\'s Note Jack: see a previous story here http://www.vintoniowa.org/articles/News/article106491.html; they are riding through between approx. 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
