The Cedar Falls Chamber of Commerce is bringing a group of 250 people to Vinton tomorrow via the Iowa Northern Railroad! Once again, we have a great opportunity to showcase our community and give visitors a glimpse of the great town we get to call home!    Here is a rundown of the planning that has taken place and what to expect.

The display of the Hydro seeder has been delayed again due to the weather; we may announce a rescheduled time later, at least 48 hours in advance of the event.

The Vinton Parks and Recreation Department will be starting the Medallion Hunt, once again for the 22nd Anniversary of Party in the Park. The Medallion Hunt will begin June 12 and end on June 27.

A comic juggling and educational presentation by Jay & Leslie Cady kicked of the 2013 Vinton Public Library Summer Reading Program.  Dozens of children and several parents and care-givers watched Jay and Leslie juggle bean bags, scarves and rings in a presentation that included discussion of the importance of libraries and reading.

Pressure canners with a dial-type pressure gauge should be tested each year for accuracy. Rachel Wall, ISU Extension Nutrition and Health Specialist, will be offering testing of dial gauge pressure canners.

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Benton County will be this Friday, June 7, 2013, at the Vinton-Shellsburg Track. Everyone is invited to this celebration of more birthdays and this year, also celebrating the 100th birthday of the American Cancer Society.

In recognition of Iowa's Free Fishing weekend, Benton County Conservation will be hosting fishing clinics this weekend at Rodgers and Hannen Parks.

PEO Chapter HG will hold a supper and social meeting with Chapter MZ at the Vinton Country Club on June 10, 2013 at 6:30 PM. Reservations are required by Wednesday, June 5th for the supper.

The March of Dimes is celebrating its 75th Anniversary this year, and what better way to spread the word than to inscribe their logo into a 10-acre cornfield? Bloomsbury Farm, in Atkins, is proud to be displaying the March of Dimes' 75th Anniversary Logo in their 10-acre corn maze this year! The maze will be planted in early June, cut in late June, and will be ready for visitors by the end of July! Bloomsbury Farm will also be hosting the Challenge Run on August 17 to benefit the March of Dimes.

Cooling Dance Center will present its annual spring recital this Saturday, June 1, and Sunday, June 2, at the VSHS Auditorium.    Curtain times each day are 2 p.
