Benton County Board of Supervisor Minutes 12/10/24
December 10, 2024The Benton County Board of Supervisors met in regular session with Supervisors Primmer, Bierschenk and Seeman present. Supervisor Primmer called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. at the Benton County Service Center. Federal appeals court upholds rapidly approaching TikTok ban
By Jacob FischlerThe law Congress passed this year to force the Chinese parent company of social media giant TikTok to either sell the service or face a U.S. ban is constitutional, a panel of federal appeals judges ruled Friday.The order from a three-judge panel of the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals preserves the bipartisan law President Joe Biden signed in April forcing ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, to cease operations in the United States over concerns the platform’s data gathering could be obtained and used by the Chinese Communist Party.

City Council Notes 12/12/24
The city council met on Thursday night. Present were Ron Hessenius, Tami Stark-Mahood, Zach Parmater, Wesley Recker, and Andrew Elwick. Mayor Bud Maynard and Council Member Rylie Pflughaupt were absent. Also present was City Administrator Chris Ward. Employment of Iowans with Disabilities a Policy Priority for 2025
Iowans with disabilities are calling on lawmakers to remove barriers and income limits so that people with disabilities can be employed, financially independent, and keep the health care coverage and supports they need to flourish in their community.The request is included as one of the priorities of the Iowa Developmental Disabilities Council (Iowa DD Council) who released their public policy priorities for 2025.
