February 13, 2024The Benton County Board of Supervisors met in special session with Supervisors Seeman and Bierschenk present. Primmer called in. The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. at the Benton County Service Center. Members of the public are invited to join in during open session or watch the livestream at https://www.youtube.com/bentoncountyiowa.

The Iowa Senate has just completed week six of the legislative session. The first funnel deadline concluded on February 16th. This means all Senate bills and joint resolutions have to be reported out of Senate committees, and House bills and joint resolutions out of House committees.The Patient’s Right to Save Act, Senate File 431, successfully advanced through committee this week.

Week six ended with a flurry of committee work to beat the Feb. 16th last day of the first funnel (I mistakenly said it was the 2nd funnel in last week’s article submission) to be eligible for floor debate in either chamber.There were three Education bills that were passed out of all their respective subcommittees on Thursday afternoon, Feb. 15th, and they are House Study Bill (HSB) 712, 713, and 714 in the Iowa House.
